The Dark Descent is a follow-up to Knaak’s first book The Dark Truth. It took us deeper into Elizabeth’s world. She learned quite a bit more about herself, and what she can do. She also connected with the detective and learned some things about him too. I actually liked this book more than the first.
She actually developed some more powers which were super interesting because it involved some lore I hadn’t really heard of. I love that the author has included so much various lore into this series and that’s what sets this series apart from other vampire books. I loved that Knaak introduced vampire hunters even though he made me very anxious anytime he got near Elizabeth. There were some interesting reveals about some of the characters that I thought added a nice layer of depth to them.
So the great thing I noticed while reading this and while it is book 2 in the series, I feel it can be read as a standalone, and together, which is my most favorite part of reading true series. I’m excited that a few characters were added to enhance the storyline and I know they are going to play big parts in the upcoming books. This is a great series that just keeps getting better.
