Forbidden Secrets follows the Twyla, a young, naive girl who doesn’t realize there is more to the world. Bullied at school she has only her best friend Carol to help her survive life at school. Until one day things start to get weird and Carol ditches her for the popular cheerleaders. Now Twyla is all alone, and she’s being hunted. In the back of her mind, she knows that what she’s seeing is true, but she just won’t let herself believe it.
As I said, Twyla is very naive, I can’t count the number of times she’s gone into the woods, gotten hurt, and I’m not talking about minor incidents, and then gone back into the woods. I found myself screaming at her to just stay at home for the night. I liked Hunter, and I get where he was coming from, but I think his character could be a bit more developed, perhaps even have his point of view told.
I think for a first book this isn’t a bad read, however, I don’t like cliffhangers. I liked the storyline and it was well-edited and overall this is a fun read with supernatural creatures and a girl caught up in the danger of it all.
