Jaxon is the definition of a bad boy. He’s not in school, he smokes. he’s mysterious, and he’s got his eyes on Shelby. So when Shelby, the ultimate good girl spots him hanging with the hot guy on campus, she’s floored. Who is this guy that makes her heart jump?
But with teenagers, relationships are fraught with obstacles. Jaxon’s mom is an alcoholic who doesn’t take care of him at all. Shelby’s mother is strict, she doesn’t want Shelby dating and Shelby needs to focus on school. But when you’re in love, you let your heart lead, and that’s what the two of them do. Their relationship is anything but easy. There seems to be an endless road of hurdles set up for these two, but they prove that love, even young love, can overcome even the hardest of roadblocks.
I always like finding new YA books that tackle various aspects of life that come up for teenagers, and because I want to avoid spoilers, I’m not naming the roadblocks these two encounter. But I appreciate that Sienna wrote about these because life isn’t easy when you’re a teenager, you feel like you’re the only one who has gone through what you’re going through, and you need a supportive parent on your side. Even with the best of intentions, mistakes happen, and I think Shelby’s maturity speaks volumes. Meant to Be is well-written, true to life, and a testament to young love. Nicely done!
