After overhearing that her boyfriend Griffin is thinking of breaking up with her, Sophie heads out to her grandmother’s for Christmas break earlier than she planned. Wanting only to see her granddaughter happy, Nonna devises a plan: 10 blind dates to see Sophie smile. The family divides up the choices and gives Sophie one free pass if she doesn’t like the guy or the date. We follow Sophie not only on these dates but as she reconnects with her cousins who she’s pulled away from since dating Griffin. Also important to the storyline is that Sophie’s sister Margot is on bed rest while she waits for her newborn to arrive. As things start to get tense with her sister, Sophie finds that even though she’s enjoying some of the dates, her sister might need her more.
I borrowed this one from the library on a recommendation and I’m so glad I did because this was such a fun read. Sophie’s family is super funny and I found myself laughing out loud a lot. She was such a good sport through all of this and the multiple branches of the storyline between the dates, rekindling the friendship with her cousins and old friend, and then her sister just added to how great a storyline this is. It’s heartwarming and hilarious, the added romance was a fun bonus. I’m definitely going to check out some of Elston’s other works. Very well done!
