About the Book:
When the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella turns into a dragon.
Her dream twisted into a nightmare, she flees from the ball into the wilderness. Cinderella’s only hope? Sikandar, a sorcerer banished from a faraway land, who promises to break the dragon curse. Even at her most beastly, he finds beauty within her. But he’s hiding his own dark past, and saving Cinderella might be his last chance of redemption.
Together, Cinderella and Sikandar must untangle dangerous secrets and deadly magic before happily ever after is forever out of reach.
Dragon by Midnight features sweet romance, twists on fairytales, an obsession with breakfast, and a cinnamon roll hero who’s too good to be bad.
About the Author
Karen Kincy writes books when she isn’t writing code. She has a BA in Linguistics and Literature from The Evergreen State College, and an MS in Computational Linguistics from the University of Washington.
I confess I don’t usually read fairytale retellings, but the cover and title had me intrigued. I mean, dragons? Sign me up! The blurb made this vague enough that I was curious to see how the author would spin this.
Cinderella isn’t a weak character who will spend her time fretting and doing little to solve it. True, she’s living in a pretty abusive home life, but those kinds of bonds are hard to break. But when it comes to rescuing herself, she just might take those reins and slay it.
Except for the prince, who isn’t that prominent of a character, the characters are rich and enjoyable. I liked Cinderella and Sikandar. I loved learning about what they could do. Kincy has created an imaginative world where amazing things can happen. While this does disappointingly end on a cliffhanger, it will be interesting to see where the author takes this story in future books. Overall, this is an enjoyable and imaginative retelling.
