Goodreads TBR Cleanup

I know I can’t be the only one with an out-of-control TBR on Goodreads. So I thought I would go through a bit of cleanup of 10 books in my TBR and see if I can weed any out. Let’s look at the ones I’m working with.

A Long Petal of the Sea, Isabel Allende
Historical Fiction

I added this in 2019, and I really want to read it, I just don’t think I will ever get around to it, so I’m going to delete it.

The Water Cure, Sophie Mackintosh
Dystopian

Another 2019 added book. The top reviews aren’t all that favorable, and it just doesn’t sound as good as it once did, so I’m removing this one.

Miracle Creek, Angie Kim
Mystery/Thriller

Over the past few years, I’ve really gotten into mystery and thriller books. I have an ebook, so I think I will keep this one on my list.

Beach Read, Emily Henry
Contemporary Romance

Everyone loves Emily Henry books, and I still haven’t read her even though I have a few of her paperbacks! So I’m definitely going to keep this one on the list.

Girl, Unframed, Deb Caletti
YA/Contemporary

Rereading the blurb, this just doesn’t sound like it’s for me. So I’m deleting this from my TBR.

They Wish They Were Us, Jessica Goodman
YA/Mystery

I’ve read one of her other books, and I was lukewarm with it. I’m always willing to give an author a second chance, but numerous friends on GR just felt middle of the road on this. So I’m deleting it, at least for now.

These Violet Delights, Chloe Gong
Historical Fantasy

This book just keeps getting lost in my TBR, but I really want to read it, especially because the 2nd book is out, so it’s complete. I’m keeping this in my TBR.

Watch Over Me, Nina LaCour
YA

Rereading the blurb, I think I added this because of all the hype. This one might not be the right fit for me, so I’m going to delete it.

A Separate Peace, John Knowles
YA/Historical

This one still sounds good. So I’m keeping this in my list and hoping I can move it up my TBR.

The Lamplighters, Emma Stonex
Historical Fiction/Mystery

Honestly, I’ve read a few books from varying authors that take on this mystery, so I don’t think I need another. I’m deleting this.

Out of 10 books, I’m keeping 4 books and deleting 6. That’s actually better than I hoped for. Because the TBR is digital, it’s really easy to just keep books in there. But because it’s grown so large, I’m having trouble trying to pinpoint my next read. I’m hoping that cleaning it a little at a time will help with that.

Have you read any of these, should I keep some on there? Do you ever clean up your Goodreads TBR?
