It’s been a little over a month since I last did a TBR cleanup over on Goodreads. It seems that I have no control over there because I’ve easily added 10 or more books since the last time I cleaned up. But let’s look at 10 and see if I can weed any of them out.

The Wives, Tarryn Fisher
Thriller
A lot of my GR friends have either read this or have it in their TBR. But I just don’t think I’m going to get around to reading it, so I will be removing this.

The Institute, Stephen King
Horror
I patiently waited for this to come out in paperback and then bought it. (Publishers really shouldn’t wait a year to release books in paperback because some of us have a hard time holding hardcover.) Anyway, because I have this on my bookshelf, I will keep it in my TBR.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Mary Ann Shaffer, Annie Barrows
Historical Fiction
I confess that I watched this on Netflix a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it, but I’m not a fan of watching a movie and then going back to read the book, so I think I will remove this from my TBR.

Golden State, Ben H. Winters
Dystopian
I am a sucker for Dystopian books, and because this is blended as a thriller, it sounds like a double homerun for me, so I will be keeping it on my TBR.

My Real Name is Hannah, Tara Lynn Masih
Historical Fiction/YA
I don’t remember how I first stumbled upon this book, but I did preorder the ebook well ahead of release day, so I will be keeping it in my TBR.

All Eyes on Her, Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
YA/Mystery
I enjoyed The Girls Are All So Nice Here. I do want to read this one at some point, so I will keep this one.

In Five Years, Rebecca Serle
Contemporary Romance
I used to read a lot of romance, but I don’t read it as much as I used to, so this one doesn’t sound as good as it once did. I will be removing it from my TBR.

House of Correction, Nicci French
Mystery/Thriller
I added this in 2020, and it still sounds good, but I don’t think I will ever get around to reading it. So I’m deleting it (but might add it back at a later date if I stumble across it again.)

Plain Bad Heroines, Emily M. Danforth
Historical/Horror
I’m on the fence with this one. My first inclination was to remove it, but then I saw that Jenny (The Bloggess) dug it, which convinced me I’m going to like it. So I will keep it on the list.

The Chosen and the Beautiful, Nghi Vo
Historical Fantasy
Next to thrillers, historical fantasy is my favorite genre. I still really want to read this, so I’m keeping it on my list.
Out of 10 books, I am keeping 6. So I didn’t clean up as much as I hoped, but I feel productive just having gone through 10 of the books.
Have you read any of these? Should I move any of them up my TBR?
I watched The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society a few months ago. I want to read the book, but, like you, I probably won’t. Great job on cleaning out your TBR

Thank you! It really is better to read the book first
