The Soulmate, Sally Hepworth

A view from above, looking over jagged rocks along the water.

About the Book

There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.

When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral…Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?

And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate…lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.

My Thoughts

The Soulmate is a slow creeping mystery. The more Pippa tells of her life with Gabe, the more the cracks start showing because no marriage is perfect. But any issues they had seemed like everyday couple things.

Until someone they knew jumped. It tests Pippa’s marriage in unimaginable ways. She’s so easygoing that it’s hard to see her ruffled by anything. Yet she’s so wrapped up in Gabe that it’s all a bit too much. No man can be that good, right? So you, the reader, start questioning things.

I enjoyed watching this story unfold. I liked how the story slowly came together, that we didn’t know much about Gabe and Pippa’s marriage at first, other than it was idyllic. Then when we got to Amanda and Max, it was curious how their stories intertwined because Hepworth shows there is always more below the surface.

Cancel all your plans. The Soulmate is a twisty and enthralling read you won’t want to put down.

Thank you, St. Martin’s, for the ARC.

    1. It wasn’t a race to the finish thriller, but that’s not really Hepworth’s style. I think you’ll enjoy this one x
